Webster Free Public Library

Trustees Meeting

September 25, 2019

The meeting was called to order at 4:10 p.m.  Present were Nancy Picthall-French, Chairperson, Marty Bender, Treasurer, and Leslie Collins, Secretary.  Julia Bender also contributed to the meeting.

Julia shared her knowledge about Hoopla from her experience using it at the Concord Library.  Five selections may be used each month including books, audio books and movies.  There is no waiting period to get selections, like there is with Overdrive.  Selections seem to be restricted to the last twenty years, so older selections are not available, with the exception of classics.  Indexing is not as easy as it could be.  There are no overviews or sample pages of prospective selections available.

The Secretary’s report for July was reviewed and accepted after Hulu was changed to Hoopla (Fifth paragraph under Old Business) and a period was added to the end of a sentence (First sentence under New Business).

The Treasurer’s report for August/September was reviewed and accepted.

Old Business

Nine people attended the movie, Rear Window, on Friday, September 13 at 7 p.m., Cathryn received feedback of genres of movies and the results were given to Marty.  The next movie will be The Addams Family and will be shown on Friday, October 11 at 7 p.m.

Nancy has tried to contact the reporter from the Concord Monitor and has discovered she no longer works there.

Marty will do an analysis of Kanopy, Hoopla and Overdrive to find out pros, cons and cost.  Cathryn reported that 69 patrons people use Overdrive with a total of 2700 transactions.

Nancy placed future ideas for the library in the Trustees Folder:  flu shots by the VNA, Raptor Rehabilitation, UNH presentations.  Leslie contacted Donna Miller from Petals In The Pines and Marcia Wilson from Eyes on Owls and inquired about programming.  Ideas for future presentations will be discussed at our Budget Meeting on Tuesday, 10-15-19.

Marty and Nancy pulled up landscaping cloth out in the front gardens.  Marty has weeded and spread manure and mulch.  He wants to get a couple more bags of mulch.  Nancy and Leslie have planted the front garden and water on warm days.

Nancy has been in contact with David Carroll.  He has requested two tables.  Placement will be discussed prior to the presentation.  We will arrive at 6 o’clock for set up.  Nancy has moved the bigger chairs to the ends of the rows so that they will not block anyone in the audience.  Leslie will do the sign, balloons and thank you card.  Nancy and Leslie will bake snacks and Marty will donate some of his peaches for a healthy alternative.

A budget meeting has been scheduled for on October 15, 2019 at 9 a.m.  Nancy will asked Nancy Bates when our budget is due.

New Business

Cathryn is organizing/identifying the books in the overflow bin so the patrons will have better access to them.  Cathryn reviewed how to use the hook holding up the hiking backpack.  The new system for the interlibrary loan service will be operational approximately by the second week of October.

Leslie will donate two Celebration Bags to the Food Pantry on October 2.  Leslie sent Michael Sauve a Get Well card.

Marty shared his visit to an impressive library in Avon, CO.

Nancy asked if we were doing a Book Sale at The Primary on February 11, 2020.

The meeting ended at 5:30 p.m.  The next meeting of the Webster Free Public Library will be on Tuesday, 10-15-19 at 9 a.m. to develop a budget for the 2020 year and the next Trustee Meeting will be on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at 4:00 p.m.
