Webster Free Public Library

Trustees Meeting

June 26, 2019

The meeting was called to order at 4:03 p.m.  Present were Cathryn Clark-Dawe, Director, Nancy Picthall-French, Chairperson, Marty Bender, Treasurer, and Leslie Collins, Secretary.  Dot Bourque from the Historical Society was also in attendance.

Dot came to the meeting to finalize plans on purchasing a computer.  All agreed to purchase a computer and backup external drive, 50% of the cost will be paid by the Library and 50% by the Historical Society.  Dot will purchase the computer and submit the bills to the Trustees.  Dot also inquired on how to elicit interest in getting people involved for both conducting/providing oral histories.  Nancy volunteered to contact a woman she met from the Concord Monitor, invite her to a Trustee Meeting, and have her get the word out.  Dot also inquired about how to go about getting a list of the older residents in Town.  Dave Richardson was suggested as a possible resource.   Dot will contact either Therese or Leslie for ideas.  Nancy will let us know via email when she hears from the woman from the Concord Monitor.  Marty will also compile information on a consistent format for transcribing archival materials so that it can be provided to the appropriate people.

The Secretary’s report for May was reviewed and accepted.

The Treasurer’s report for June was reviewed and accepted.  Marty gave Cathryn a reimbursement check for Strawberry Banke.

Old Business

There will be a movie, Casablanca, on Friday, July 12 at 7 p.m.  Cathryn did not receive any feedback regarding recommendations of different genres of movies.  She volunteered to put up an inquiry at the front desk.  Nancy will ask on our Facebook page. Marty will call Dee Blake to see if there is still interest in viewing the movie.  Marty will purchase five more butterfly chairs for the movies online.  Leslie will set up for the movie Friday morning and will provide popcorn/water, and will not be available for the movie.  Nancy will be out of town.

Nancy will ask the woman from the Concord Monitor to advertise Dot’s free private computer sessions.  Cathryn reported that a patron did request Dot’s information, which is logged in the Procedures Manuel.

The Trustees attended the NHTA Conference on May 29 from 8-3:30 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester Downtown Hotel.  They shared the content of their individual workshops and discussed the applicability to our library.

The Trustees all felt hosting the Select Board Meeting was successful and it was recommended to extend an invitation again next year.

Nancy shared a book on Little Free Libraries and was interested in our thoughts about providing them for Webster residents.  Ideas for placement, frequency of use and  how to generate volunteers to build them, will be continued next month.

The service provided by Kanopy was discussed.  Marty provided an article and Cathryn sent us each an informative email.  The discussion will continue next month.  Cathryn will obtain more research/details on her Listserv.

Ways of integrating our “Universe of Stories” Summer Reading Program theme into Old Home Days was discussed.

New Business

Cathryn has had the Panic Button tested by the Chief of Police.

Leslie will donate two Celebration Bags and cookout supplies (to go along with this month’s theme) to the Food Pantry on July 3, 2019.  She will also provide snack and cover the library for the last Summer Reading Program on Monday, August 12 at 6:30 p.m. so Cathryn can supervise the culminating show, Magic by George.

Nancy invited us to send her any ideas for the agenda by email prior to a meeting.  She suggested revising the meeting notes by concluding the notes with a monthly to do list.

The meeting ended at 5:22 p.m.  The next meeting of the Webster Free Public Library will be on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at 4:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
