Webster Free Public Library

Trustees Meeting

May 22, 2019

The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m.  Present were Cathryn Clark-Dawe, Director, Nancy Picthall-French, Chairperson, Marty Bender, Treasurer, and Leslie Collins, Secretary.  Dot Bourque from the Historical Society was also in attendance.

Dot came to the meeting to request that the library join in a collective venture to look into purchasing and housing a new computer capable of accessing and storing archival work that both the Historical Society and Library are collecting.  She made suggestions for the capacity of the computer, back-up options, making different accounts with different access codes and spoke about copyright restrictions.  She is interested in consulting with Andy from Guinards PC Consulting LLC in Hopkinton, NH, and hearing his recommendations for the project.  The Trustees agreed to consult with Andy.  The computer could be housed in the library and replace one of the public computers.  Marty will call Andy, set up a meeting and start gathering more information.  Marty will also compile information on a consistent format for transcribing archival materials so that it can be provided to the appropriate people.

The Secretary’s report for April was reviewed and accepted after December was changed to March twice in the third paragraph.  The word “donated” was changed to “purchased” in the first paragraph under New Business.

The Treasurer’s report for April was reviewed and accepted.

Cathryn has received the NH State Park Pass for $105, which covers 2 adults and 4 children.  The pass is generated online for the date requested and then a paper copy is given to the patron.  Only one pass for a specific date may be printed. Cathryn will show all of the volunteers how to print out the pass.

The Pollinator Presentation attracted 25 people.  Donna Miller did a wonderful job.  The Trustees felt it was a great success.

There will be a movie, Loving, on Friday, June 14 at 7 p.m.  This will be the final movie until the fall.  Nancy asked Cathryn to ask our residents on our Facebook page what genres of movies they prefer.  Marty will purchase five more butterfly chairs for the movies.  Leslie will put out the message board.

Nancy drafted a cover letter for an informational packet about the library for new residents and an updated library pamphlet.  Final revisions were made and final approval was given for both.  Nancy will contact Therese and find out if any new residents have moved into Webster.

Nancy reviewed ideas from the Warner NHLTA Regional Conference as possible suggestions for our Library.  They included:  the movie Food Fight (the Market Basket story) can be borrowed from Warner, Book Club to Film, monthly displays from resident artisans, poetry nights, enlisting high school students for interns or volunteer/community service, a story trail, Little Free Libraries and Kanopy, a service that allows patrons to view documentaries and movies.

Dot Bourque did not have any participants at her second Computer Café held on the second Monday of the month.  The Computer Café is a free service offered by Dot that offers individualized instruction on your personal laptop or tablet.  She is now offering individualized, private sessions to residents of Webster.

The Trustees will be attending the NHLTA Conference on May 29 from 8-3:30 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester Downtown Hotel in Manchester.  We will meet in the Library parking lot at 7 a.m.

The Select Board has accepted our invitation to hold their Tuesday, June 4 meeting in the library at 5:30.  Set up will be at 4:30.  Leslie will bake and bring water.

Marty will look into Kanopy.

Leslie will donate two Celebration Bags and cleaning supplies (to go along with this month’s theme) to the Food Pantry on June 5, 2019.

The meeting ended at 5:20 p.m.  The next meeting of the Webster Free Public Library will be on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at 4:00 p.m.
