Webster Free Public Library

Trustees Meeting

July 26th, 2017

The meeting was called to order at 4:08 p.m.  Present were Cathryn Clark-Dawe, Director, Nancy Picthall-French, Chairperson, Marty Bender, Treasurer and Leslie Collins, Secretary.

The Secretary’s report for June was reviewed and accepted after the month for Guns of August was changed from August to September under Old Business. A typographical error was also corrected (1;00 to 1:00).

The Treasurer’s report for June was resubmitted (because a subscription for Good Housekeeping had been omitted), reviewed and accepted.  The report for July was also submitted, reviewed and accepted.  The July budget reflects the allocation from the town of $10,130.00.

Old Business

A movie will not be shown for July or August.  On September 9th The Historical Society will be featuring Guns of August at 2 p.m.  On October 21st a children’s movie will be shown as a matinee at 2 p.m.  Recommendations for children’s movies are encouraged and welcomed from parents.

Nancy presented a copy of the current Master Plan for the library (2006).  She included examples of Master Plans from surrounding towns for libraries that are equal in size/population to Webster.  The following ideas were brainstormed:

*Cathryn would write the first part describing the statistics, patronage, physical description, technology and funding.

*Issues, goals and suggestions:

1. To establish partnerships with the community (w/ elementary school, Conservation Commission, Historical Society)

2. To enhance programming and collections to reflect the needs and   interests of the community (taken from our 2016 Needs Assessment)

3. To communicate/publicize library resources, programs, services in a consistent manner (Grapevine, MV Crier, Webpage, possible Facebook page)

4. To strengthen the collections in a variety of media to meet the continuously evolving needs of the diverse users

5. To anticipate/support the changes in both technology and types of media in the future

Nancy will write a rough draft using the generated ideas.  She will get in touch with Bruce Johnson to inquire if the Library Board can be present to represent the library.

John Collins has resolved the potential security issue.  Thank you, John!

New Business

Marty brought in photocopied pages of Currie Sawyer’s 1828 diary.  Marty will try to contact the professor at Keene State College who teaches how to restore and preserve archives.  Cathryn wondered if the Historical Society might want to cooperate with our efforts to preserve the diaries and have them available to the public.  Marty will approach Dot Bourque and inquire whether there is interest.

The Summer Reading Program, Build a Better World, has begun with 20 participants and is going very well.

Once again this June, Sarah Mason, school librarian, brought WES students over to introduce/visit/explore the library.

The library will not be participating in Old Home Day this year.

Revision/updating the Policy and Procedures will commence after we have developed our final Master Plan ideas.

The meeting ended at 5:15 p.m.  The next meeting of the Webster Free Public Library will be on Wednesday, August 23rd, 2017 at 4 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Leslie Collins, Secretary
