Trustees Meeting

July 25, 2018

The meeting was called to order at 4:11 p.m.  Present were Cathryn Clark-Dawe, Director, Nancy Picthall-French, Chairperson, Marty Bender, Treasurer and Leslie Collins, Secretary.

The Secretary’s report for June was reviewed and accepted after a date was changed (April for May) on the first page, second paragraph.  A sentence was shortened to “…a category in the budget named Programming for programs.” on the first page, third paragraph.  “…three celebration bags” was changed to four under New Business, fourth paragraph.  September was changed to August twice under New Business, sixth paragraph.

The Treasurer’s report through July 25 was reviewed and accepted.

Old Business

On Monday, July 23 at 6:30 p.m., Nancy, Marty and Leslie attended a mandatory workshop, Harassment In the Workplace, sponsored by Primex in the Town Hall.  The Town of Webster’s Harassment Policy and Workplace Violence Policy was reviewed.

On Tuesday, July 24 at 6:30 p.m., Nancy, Marty and Leslie attended the Master Plan Meeting to address any questions pertaining to the Library’s Master Plan.  Objectives and recommendations from updated chapters for different departments of the Master Plan were reviewed.  Chapter Three was not specifically discussed.  Nancy will look into how to put books onto the internet so that our historical resources will be safe from a fire, etc.  This discussion will be ongoing.

Nancy contacted Andy Timmons from NH Fish and Game to confirm the two dates we picked for his bear program.  Friday, March 29th at 7:00 was picked for the presentation, with Friday, April 5 as a backup date.  Andy will be supplying photos for a flyer.  Nancy has reserved the Town Hall.

Nancy gave Marty a copy of Tips for Recording Oral Histories from Genealogy.com.  Cathryn requested that another copy be emailed to her.

Nancy presented purchasing information for a library logo sign with a directional arrow with a cost of $77.00 including shipping from Demco.  Marty suggested getting two, one for the soccer field area and one for the area around the junction of White Plains Road.  Cathryn gets a discount from Demco.  Since this is long term goal, this will be an ongoing discussion.  Emmet needs to be consulted and where the sign can be purchased from (Demco or the State Prison?) needs clarification.

New Business

Dot Bourque has volunteered to offer computer classes in the library.  Cathryn has checked the computer speed at the library using speedtest.com.  The speed was measured at 15.05M and we are paying for 15M through TDS for $45 per month.  The next level upgrade would be 150M X 40M for $99 per month.  The four board members each tested a computer simultaneously while doing a Google search and agreed that the speed seemed adequate.  Nancy wondered what factors in a neighborhood would hinder the computer speed.  Nancy requested that we each bring our laptops from home to the August meeting for more experimentation with computer speed.

Cathryn requested August 26-29 off for vacation.  The library will be closed.  All trustees agreed.  Cathryn suggested a raffle for the old projector.  All trustees agreed.  Cathryn requested a receipt from Marty for the Telephone Museum verifying payment for the new Museum Pass.

Marty will look into purchasing lapel microphones with the newly acquired donations.

Marty will look into specific restrictions/options from SWANK for our movie selections and compare it to the Motion Picture Licensing Corp. (an additional $135).  Marty will have movie selections for us in August for the upcoming year.

Marty has volunteered to oil the bench with teak oil.

Leslie will be delivering four more Celebration Bags to Peg Foss at the Food Pantry on August 1 at 5:30.

Leslie suggested using up the bottled water we presently have for future movies then move to a container of water using paper cups.  All agreed.  Leslie will donate her container, water and cups.

Reviewing the Bylaws was postponed to the August meeting due to time restraints.

The meeting ended at  5:15 p.m.  The next meeting of the Webster Free Public Library will be on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at 4 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Leslie Collins, Secretary
