Webster Free Public Library
What is Interlibrary Loan?
If the Library does not own a book or journal that you need for your research, we will try to borrow that item from another library for you.
Who can use ILL?
Any Webster Free Public Library cardholder in good standing is eligible to use ILL. You can make up to five ILL requests at a time. Interlibrary Loan is transacted only from library to library. Individual patrons from other libraries should request this service from their own local library.
What sort of materials can I get through Interlibrary Loan?
We will attempt to borrow whatever materials you need. You can receive photocopies of articles that are available at a participating New Hampshire library. Be aware that most libraries will not lend reference or genealogical materials, or entire copies of journals. Some libraries will not lend audiovisual materials. Most libraries have some sort of restriction on lending of new materials. We will not borrow books that are owned by our library but are checked out.
How do I request material from Interlibrary Loan?
You may make your Interlibrary Loan request by coming in to the library, by calling 648-2706, or by emailing us at websterl@tds.net.
What information do I need to make a request?
To request a specific book you will need the author, title and if possible, the year of publication. To request a journal article you will need the title of the journal, date, and page numbers, and author and title of the article. If you have a subject request, please be as specific as possible. If you don't have all of the information, we will still try to fill your request, but may not be successful.
How long does it take to receive and Interlibrary loan item?
The Webster Free Public Library belongs to the New Hampshire Automated Information System. Requests can be placed electronically to New Hampshire member libraries and are delivered once a week by van. Usually, it takes about two weeks to receive an item from another library in New Hampshire.
If the material is not located in the state, and we have to request from out-of-state locations using the mail, it can take up to three months. We work hard to have your request sent out within 24 hours. Once your request is sent out, it takes the other libraries time to process your request, and then it takes more time to ship the material to us. If the item is not available for ILL at a library that owns the material, another library must then be asked to loan the item.
Do you charge a fee for Interlibrary Loan?
No, there is no fee for placing an Interlibrary Loan request. However, many out-of-state libraries charge to send materials. Fees run from $5.00 to $25.00. You will be asked whether you are willing to pay the fees. The Webster Free Public Library must pass these fees along to you due to budgetary constraints. If you wish to have photocopies of articles or other materials from an out-of-state library, you should contact that library directly.
How long can I keep Interlibrary Loan materials?
Typically, books are available for 2-4 weeks at the discretion of the loaning library. The loaning library may impose restrictions, such as in-library use. We strongly discourage renewals, but if you absolutely need additional time to use the material, please contact us as soon as possible. The loaning library grants permission for renewals, not Webster Free Public Library. We cannot request renewals for items that are already overdue. Please make every effort to return the items by the specified due. Failure to return these items on time may result in loss of your ILL privileges.
Interlibrary Loan is dependent upon the generosity and goodwill between libraries. Please be careful with their property and return it on time.
