Computer Use & Internet Policy
Webster Free Public Library
Computer Use & Internet Policy

Users will obey all federal, state, and local laws governing copyright, licensing and content restrictions.

No manipulation of the operating system is allowed.  No manipulation of settings—including, but not limited to the desktop, screen savers, or Internet home page—is allowed.  Doing so may result in a loss of privileges.

The librarian or volunteer on duty will be happy, to the best of his or her ability, to answer general computer questions, and to provide brief instruction for the various programs. It is not the responsibility of the library staff or volunteers to provide detailed instruction to anyone using the computer.

Patrons wishing to save their work are encouraged to do so as an attachment to their own email accounts.  The Library’s computers are periodically purged of any saved documents.

A printer is available for public use, but patrons are requested to please make a donation if printing out more than five pages.

There is no guarantee that information found on the Internet is accurate, and there are sites that some patrons may find offensive or controversial.  Parents who are concerned about their children’s access to the Internet are encouraged to be with their children during Internet sessions.

Although the librarian and volunteers have no wish to censor use of the Internet, nor any wish to monitor what is being viewed, this is a one-room library used heavily by children and families, and we ask that our patrons use common sense and courtesy in using the Internet.

The staff may begin shutting down the computers five minutes before closing time.
