Library FAQs
Where is the library?
It is located on the upper level of the town hall, in a converted church.

How do I apply for a library card?
Simply show up with some identification that shows your current Webster address.

Does the library have any special programming?
We run a monthly Book Group for adults.  Information on the current month’s book appears in the Webster Grapevine, and copies of the book are available at the library.  We also have a six-week Summer Reading Program for children.

Does the library accept donations of used materials?
Yes.  Donated items end up either on our shelves, or added to our ongoing book sale.  Because we have such limited storage space, please limit your donations to one box or large bag per month.

Where does the money come from to run the library?
Most of it comes from the appropriation voted on during the annual town meeting.  This is supplemented by the interest earned on a large bequest, by our ongoing book sale, and by donations both large and small.

Is the library’s catalog online?
Not at this time, but you can still check out our holdings through the Internet by going to the New Hampshire Union Public Access Catalog (NHU-PAC). Click the “Advanced Searching” tab, type in your search terms, and then go toward the bottom of the page and limit results to location = hrbz.

Does the library use volunteers?
Yes, the library is staffed by volunteers Wednesday evenings from 4-8 PM.  In addition, we use volunteers to provide the entertainment and the refreshments at our Summer Reading Program storytimes.  Whenever we need a new volunteer, we’ll have a notice in the Grapevine, and also post a sign at the library.  Also, we have an ongoing need for people to help out with our Adopt-A-Shelf program.  Simply sign up for a group of shelves, and show up at least once a month to put their books in order.  This is especially helpful for those of you who would like to help out, but aren’t able to commit to a specific time of month.

Does the library have any special services?
Yes.  We offer interlibrary loan to help you borrow materials that our library doesn’t own.  It usually takes two weeks for the materials to arrive (longer, if we need to borrow from an out-of-state library), and most brand-new materials are not available for ILL.  We also offer online access to a broad range of journals and reference materials through EbscoHost, which is located at http://search.ebscohost.com.  Contact us for the sign-in information.  Finally, we offer access to a large and growing collection of downloadable audiobooks through the New Hampshire Downloadable Audio Books program.  Contact us for your special library card number before attempting to use this service for the first time.
